Southern Inter-Counties Under 17 Women's Match
Basildon - 3rd August 2008
For the third year in a row we can report on an emphatic win for Essex scoring 339 points with Hampshire in 2nd with 306 points.
I want to pay tribute to the coaches and parents who put so much time in to supporting the athletes. Also a big thanks to all the officials who put in many hours of dedication on ensuring a well run meeting .Finally to the athletes who really rose to the occasion in difficult conditions and all performing well on the day.
The inclusion of young Eleanor Bounds 14 proved to be a most exciting one as she ran a perfect tactical race to annex the
B string event over 1500 metres and was 3rd overall. Eleanor our Under 15 girls cross country champion showed great maturity and was not phased in the slightest competing against older athletes. Well done to you Eleanor.
A string victories go to team captain Ellie Besford in the Pole Vault, two fine victories from Chelsea Coker in the Shot and Discus, an excellent run from Victoria Ohorugou in the 300 metres and a great triple jump from Rachel Dean.
B string victories came from Angela James 80 metre hurdles, Cherice McKay in the Shot, Amy Fry in the Javelin, Liz Ridley in the Pole Vault, Georgia Atkins in the Long Jump and Polly Woods in the triple jump.
A word of praise also goes to Chloe Galloway who performed in three events and ensured no “zeros” were scored and also achieved a PB in the javelin on the way.
This squad has athletes with the potential of wearing GB vests in the future and I hope all athletes continue to enjoy their athletics and grow with confidence as they progress forward in years to come.
Once again my thanks to all concerned for a great day to remember for our County
